24 hours in Connemara

Landscape 1

Only 24 hours... where should we start?

A day/night away travelling around the fab countryside of Connemara is definitely up our alley and we love to pack in as much as possible. 🙂  To make it a little easier for you all, we have put together some of our fave spots to eat, drink, explore and to stay.

First 12 hours...

If you are on the go like ourselves Walsh’s in #Clifden has you covered for a caffeine boost and a tasty treat. They are a fab family run bakery that has amazing treats, bread, cakes and pastries. Not to be missed.

Then head into All things Connemara to get some info, rent a bike and have a cheeky look at the local crafts. 🙂 For bike rental, they offer both regular and electric bikes….good idea for getting around those scenic #Connemara hills.

We rented out bikes and chose to cycle the #roundstone Loop. This is one of our favorite cycle loops in #Connemara and the old bog road… Just WOW.

Before finishing off the day take a dip at Dogs Bay for a wonderful and refreshing swim.

Step into O’Dowd’s of Roundstone for their amazing seafood chowder and fine pint of #Guinness. O’Dowds Seafood Bar, Restaurant  & Cafe is located in the centre of Roundstone village overlooking the harbour with panoramic views over Roundstone Bay & the Twelve Bens, a wonderful place to take it all in.

Rest your head at Ben Lettery Hostel.

Welcoming guests and meeting travellers from all over the world. Ben Lettery hostel has plenty to offer from dorm beds to fab private rooms, catering to families, small groups and the hiking backpacker.  Despite our start in the city we are keen hill-walkers and have always loved getting out to Connemara, so are delighted to have opened our second hostel at the base of Ben Lettery. We’re all about great value, a great vibe and the great outdoors. We’re sandwiched in beauty – at the base of a mountain and overlooking a lake you won’t find a more idyllic spot. Book Now folks.

Next day...

Walking up looking over Ballynahich Lake and sipping a cup of tea sounds like a nice start of the day to us. 🙂

We got our hiking boots on and headed up BenLettery Mountain for a fab hike. Benlettery is in the southernmost peak of the Twelve Bens mountain range in the Connemara National Park in Galway.  The view from the top will be worth the slightly breathless walk 😉 This is dramatic Connemara landscape at its best!
